Goal:

  • Have puppy turn in a circle (180 to 360 degrees) while keeping all four feet on a large, low, stable platform

What you need:

  1. Non-slippery floor

  2. One large, low, stable platform

  3. Cookies

  4. Your puppy

What to do:

  1. Put a cookie on the floor or in a bowl, away from the platform for the puppy to eat

  2. Lure puppy to put all four feet on the platform, mark + treat

  3. Use one hand to lure puppy to turn 180 degrees on the platform, mark + treat

  4. Repeat step 3

  5. Make sure to work both directions (i.e., clockwise and counterclockwise)

What the progression may look like:

  1. Puppy turns their head only, puppy does not move their feet

  2. Puppy turns about 90 degrees

  3. Puppy turns about 180 degrees

  4. Puppy turns 180 degrees twice

  5. Puppy turns 360 degrees

How many reps? How often?

  • Learning phase: 3-5 reps/direction/session, 2-3x/week

  • Maintenance phase: 5 reps/direction/2 sets/session, 2x/week
